WATTS BAR NUCLEAR PLANT RESPONSE PLAN

The State of Tennessee Multi-Jurisdictional Radiological Emergency Response Plan for the Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, more commonly called the "Watts Bar Plan," describes federal, state, local and participating agency response to emergencies at the Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant, operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The plant is located just outside the City of Soddy Daisy, 50 miles north of Chattanooga. Any incident that occurs at Watts Bar could potentially affect the neighborhoods and environment in the off-site area surrounding the plant. For this reason, the State of Tennessee, the Tennessee Valley Authority and the counties in the potentially impacted areas agreed to work together to develop a response capability to protect health, safety, and the environment. The development of these plans is required by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a condition for the licensing of the plant.

The plan document itself consists of two volumes.  Volume I is the state emergency response plan for the facility, while Volume II contains the Implementing Instructions for the various local governments that are considered risk or host counties immediately surrounding Watts Bar itself.  Printed copies are available for review in the Emergency Management Offices of the affected counties.

If you have any questions, comments, or other recommendations concerning the Sequoyah Plan, you are encouraged to contact the Fixed Nuclear Facilities Planning Office of TEMA at 1-615-741-4503 or via e-mail.

NOTE:  Because of the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the Fixed Nuclear Facilities Group has decided not to post the content of these plans on the agency's web site.  If you need to review a copy of the documents, please contact your local emergency management office or the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency's FNF Planning Section Chief at 615-741-4500.  Authorized local government agencies and state Emergency Services Coordinators may view the plan online at the TEMA LocalWEB or StateWEB Web Sites.
