The Operations
Directorate includes the major functions that serve as the heartbeat of the
agency, i.e., those functions that actually provide the underlying support that
allows the remainder of the agency to work.
Operations - Operations is the central point for all emergency warning,
communications and response in Tennessee 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Operations officers coordinate incidents and missions with numerous state,
local, private sector and research organizations. Tornadoes, severe weather,
flash floods, earthquakes, hazardous materials accidents and civil emergencies
are just a few of the natural and technological hazards coordinated as
incidents and missions through the Operations office. This section utilizes a
statewide communications system to coordinate its activities. Operations is commonly known throughout Tennessee, from
state and local government agencies to private sector industry as the 9-1-1 of
state government.

West Tennessee
Flooding Report
The National Weather Service has not issued any
additional flood warnings for West Tennessee this week due to the large amount
of water flowing south with the Mississippi River. The graph below shows the most recent river
gauges available. The green dots along
Tennessee’s western border represent river stages that are below the action
stage and are not high enough to merit flooding concerns.
Field inspections by TEMA Area Coordinator
indicate that rivers such as the Obion River at Bogota
and the Forked Deer at Dyersburg are at slightly higher levels than last week,
but still within their banks. Except for a few low lying fields near the

the Department of Military will be involved with this drill.

The Hardeman County EMA reported a fire at Kings
Auto Parts in Bolivar, Tenn., causing an unknown amount of oil and antifreeze
to be released. TEMA Area Coordinator
responded to the scene due to the possibility that the spill may spread to the Hatchee River Wildlife Area via runoff water and the storm
drain system. First Response was contracted to cleanup the surrounding area
outside of the store and the city was able to block the storm drain water from
entering the Wildlife Area. At this
time, no arrangements have been made to cleanup the inside of the building and
the LEMA is checking into obtaining frac tanks to
collect contaminated water from the surrounding area until it can be disposed
of properly.
Eight separate severe thunderstorm warnings were
issued during the late evening of Saturday, June 28, 2008. Much of East Tennessee remained under these
warnings until the storm passed at about quarter to 11 p.m., eastern daylight
time. No injuries or damages were reported
in conjunction with this storm.
