The East Tennessee Region for TEMA consists of the 36 counties east of the Eastern Time Zone boundary.
The communities involved range from the smallest unincorporated areas to two of the largest cities in the state, Knoxville and Chattanooga. East Tennessee is also home to three of the largest hazards in the state - the state's nuclear facilities.

The region consists of rolling hills that gradually become the Appalachian Mountains, and includes the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Much of the area is heavily forested, lending itself to significant wildfires in drier times of the year.

The major hazards present in the East Tennessee region are:

1. Sequoyah and Watts Bar Nuclear Plants (TVA)

2. The U. S. Department of Energy Facility at Oak Ridge

3. Wildland/Forest Fires

4. Flooding

5. Hazardous Materials

6. Severe Weather

7. Earthquakes
